When You Got Nothing

Sitting down this week to write this post, I was a bit alarmed that I didn’t feel like God had laid anything specific on my heart to write to you about. I prefer writing when I feel like God has a direct word that I’m supposed to give. But sitting down I had nothing.
 
At least not at first…
 
Because as I prayed over my words, my nothing changed to His Something.
 
Often we feel like the daily grind is indeed grinding us down to nothing. We long for that infusion of God into our details. We yearn for a glimpse of the miraculous as the minutes of our days linger on. We got nothing… and we want SOMETHING.
 
Really anything… right? We’ll take ANYTHING that reminds us we’re loved, and protected, and thought about. Our flesh is weak for provision, and too often we fill it with that which is unfulfilling; which leads to an even bigger feeling of nothingness than we started with.
 
But in God, we have Something! We have SomeOne who always has SomeThing to give. There is no such thing as nothing any more in our lives, because our God loves us. If only we could comprehend and feel what His love for us is, and does, and looks like. His love is SomeThing because it is EveryThing.
 
Ephesians 3:17 (NIV)
I pray that you, being rooted and established in love; may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how WIDE and LONG and HIGH and DEEP is the love of Christ ,and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
 
Looks at all those great words- the opposites of nothing… rooted, established, power, surpassing knowledge, filled to the measure, fullness… these are words filled with SomeThing are they not? They surely do not insinuate nothing! Not only that, nothing can separate us from that love (and all those big words)!
 
Romans 8:38 promises us, “that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, not any powers, neither height not depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
 
So, like me, when you feel like you got nothing, tap back into the SomeOne who always has SomeThing to offer you. As Paul writes, be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God; fill so full that the only ‘nothing’ you have is ‘nothing left to fill.’

    I love it when God does that! He has done that for me several times since I started writing–changed my nothing into something! I won’t write without Him.
