Into His Arms
Picking up my child at school the other day I happened to be at just the right spot where I could watch the ‘walk-up’ line. As the bell rang and school let out, child after child came running from the doors, backpacks in place, papers in hand, lunch boxes noisily banging at their sides.
Waiting around the corner was all manner of humanity- dads, moms, grandmas and grandpas, sisters, uncles, friends, caregivers… talk and short, rich and poor, young and old. The faces in the crowd waited expectantly for their child to tear around the bend.
And tear around the bend they did! Down to the last child- tall and short, rich and poor, young and younger- they each sought their beloved’s face in the crowd and ran with jubilation into their arms.
Every. Single. One. Of. Them.
The joy on the faces of the huggers and the huggees was striking. Such happiness at the reunification! Such abandon in seeing their loved ones. Through my open window I could hear little voices chatting away happily about their days, tiny hands full of hand-made treasures and papers lifted to their caregivers.
Look at what I did. Here’s what we made today. I learned about this!
Mixed in to the high vocals were the gentle and sweet tones of the adults as they grasped the hands and papers and book bags to safely usher them away home.
Oh my look at THAT! What a great picture! You are so smart. I’m so proud of you!
The show-and-tells and congratulations drifted in and away as I pulled my car up to pick up my own little one; eagerly anticipating all he had to show and tell me about his day.
It was a sweet reminder to me of how eagerly God awaits our attention. How He must stand by, watching and waiting for us to come tearing around the corner after a long day. Smiling as He anticipates all our stories, our worries, our proud moments and our struggles.
God wants to see our show-and-tells. He wants us to run into His arms with the same abandon those children did. Each party rejoicing to be together once again and debrief from the day. Taking our burdens- the lunch boxes, books, papers, backpacks- from us as we freely give them to Him to carry. “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens” (Psalm 68:19 NIV).
Dear ones, today focus on meeting with Abba. He is waiting expectantly for your arrival! He wants to know about your day. Bring your burdens, bring your joys, bring your frustrations and worries. He cannot wait to see you. Jump into His arms as you relish His goodness, faithfulness, and simple Presence.
“You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:24-26 NIV
